Naruto is now celebrating the 20th Anniversary of the anime's original premiere in Japan, and Japan's most famous cosplayer is really going all out for the occasion by taking on Naruto Uzumaki's wildest jutsu, the Sexy Jutsu! Masashi Kishimoto's Naruto franchise has been at its peak this year because while the Boruto: Naruto Next Generations sequel anime and manga has been in the middle of a hiatus, the original Naruto series has made a major comeback to help celebrate the anime's 20th Anniversary. It's got all sorts of projects in the pipeline for the young version of Naruto fans were introduced to all those years ago.

One of the ways that Naruto immediately stood out from all of the other shinobi in the Hidden Leaf Village was not only his status as an outcast, but the fact that he had a very unique take on the transformation jutsus that often caught his opponents by surprise. It's led to one of Naruto's most infamous yet iconic looks overall, and now Japan's most famous cosplay Enako (with over two million followers on Twitter) has shared their take on Naruto's wildest jutsu with some bold cosplay! Check it out below:

What's Coming for Naruto's 20th Anniversary?

As part of the celebration for Naruto's 20th Anniversary, original Naruto manga creator Masashi Kishimoto briefly returned to the franchise with a new manga one-shot story all about Naruto's father, Minato Namikaze, while he developed the Rasengan technique. This is far from the only celebration for Naruto's anime, however, as the original run of the series is actually returning later this Fall with a special new anime taking the younger Naruto and the rest of the original Team 7 on a new mission.

Kicking off on September 3rd in Japan, Naruto's original anime will be returning for four new episodes in the pre-Shippuden timeline as fans will get to see a higher resolution take on the classic designs after all this time. It's the perfect time to catch up with the original Naruto anime before the new episodes hit as it's now streaming its entire run on both Crunchyroll and Hulu. There's also the Boruto: Naruto Next Generations anime and manga (which will be returning from its latest hiatus soon) if you're itching for more of the franchise's story overall.

Is One Piece's Gear 5 Luffy Stronger Than Dragon Ball's Ultra Instinct Goku? https://comicbook.com/anime/news/one-piece-gear-5-luffy-stronger-dragon-ball-ultra-instinct-goku/ Tue, 08 Aug 2023 00:06:00 +0000 Nick Valdez fc87827b-088a-4ed8-a92b-2128024697c3

One Piece has debuted a powerful new Luffy transformation with the anime's newest episode, and one question that immediately started popping up among fans was whether or not Gear 5 Luffy would be stronger than a fully powered Ultra Instinct Goku. Whether it's because Goku and Luffy's strengths have been compared in the past, or whether it's because their respective peak transformations both have white hair, but fans have been racking their brains over whether one is stronger than the other. There is an answer to this question, however, as one of their transformations currently doesn't seem to have any limits.

One Piece Episode 1071 fully introduced Gear 5 Luffy to the anime, and revealed that it was the true power of Luffy's Gum-Gum Fruit that would give him "ridiculous" abilities. Fans got to see this in action as he turned the very serious fight against Kaido into a classic cartoon, and Kaido was bereft at how to fight back such a wild opponent. But against Ultra Instinct Goku, that power could be balanced in a way as Goku's martial arts skills could make up the gap against such a wild fighting style.

Who Wins Between Gear 5 Luffy and Ultra instinct Goku?

Goku's Ultra Instinct (at the current level of control that he has with it in the manga) is still incomplete as he's constantly training to have a better control over it. At his peak, this form is shown to give him both increased offensive and defensive abilities. But the main difference with Gear 5 is that it's a form that he needs to maintain through concentration and stamina. Regardless of its godly power, it's one that is still limited by Goku's own body and mind. The god power flows through him, but only so much that his training has allowed.

This just wouldn't work against Gear 5 Luffy, whose transformation is not only innate (as he was quite literally dead before his Devil Fruit awakened its true potential) but impacts more than his offensive and defensive abilities. Luffy's Gear 5 ability might also be tied into his body's stamina, but it also allows him to fight in any way he wants. He can quite literally bend the world around him, and thus a straightforward fighter like Goku would have some trouble.

It's likely the duo would adapt to one another as their fight continued, and likely wouldn't actually come to a decisive winner. They would just enjoy the fight too much. Gear 5 Luffy is the inherently stronger of the two because his new form also affects the world around him, but Ultra Instinct Goku could theoretically adapt to even the most cartoonish of techniques.

One Piece Explains the Secret Behind Luffy's Devil Fruit Power https://comicbook.com/anime/news/one-piece-gear-5-luffy-devil-fruit-power-secret-explained/ Mon, 07 Aug 2023 22:29:00 +0000 Nick Valdez 1df1ae21-4e70-4567-8cf2-e133ab2de34c

One Piece has fully introduced Gear 5 Luffy to the anime with its newest episode, and also explained the secret behind the real power hidden within Luffy's Gum-Gum Devil Fruit! One Piece is now in the true climax of the Wano Country arc as Luffy and Kaido restarted their fight on the roof of Onigashima's Skull Dome, but Luffy's much different than he was the last time as he unlocked a powerful new form. It's a form that brings him to a godly new kind of level that impacts the world around him, and it's apparently a power that the World Government has been trying to lock down for hundreds of years.

One Piece Episode 1071 not only unleashed Gear 5 Luffy in the anime, and with it saw the Five Elders in the World Government reveal why they interfered in Luffy and Kaido's fight in the first place. While sacrificing one of their CP0 agents to take out Luffy and make Kaido angry, they argue it's much better than the alternative in letting Luffy loose. Because it turns out that the Gum-Gum Fruit actually goes by a different name with a much more ridiculous power than expected.

Luffy's Real Devil Fruit Name and Power Explained

One Piece Episode 1071 cuts to the Five Elders while Luffy is in the middle of transforming into Gear 5, and they explain that the World Government has been after the Gum-Gum Fruit for 800 years but has failed to nab it for themselves. It's like the fruit itself had been avoiding them, and it's revealed to actually be a Zoan Devil Fruit with a probable mind of its own. Not only that, but it's a mythical one tied to the powers of an ancient god. Dubbed the The Zoan, Human-Human Fruit, Mythical Type, Model Nika, it shares powers with the ancient Sun God Nika of legend.

The Fiver Elders explained that Nika's power was that his body had shared the properties of rubber, and awakening its true power gives the user more strength and "freedom." Calling it a truly "ridiculous" power, fans see this in action as Luffy's now making everything a cartoon as he fights against Kaido for this last stretch of the Wano Country arc. With this godly power at his disposal, it's made Luffy's place in the One Piece world all the more intriguing.

Jujutsu Kaisen Creator Praises End of Season 2's Gojo Flashback https://comicbook.com/anime/news/jujutsu-kaisen-season-2-gojo-flashback-ending-creator-praise/ Mon, 07 Aug 2023 21:58:00 +0000 Nick Valdez eeb42709-66cb-406f-9ddf-82239f4ce3ed

Jujutsu Kaisen Season 2 officially brought the Gojo's Past arcs to an end with the newest episode of the anime, and the original creator behind Jujutsu Kaisen has shared their praise for how the anime handled the flashback as a whole! Jujutsu Kaisen Season 2 started out with a look into Satoru Gojo and Suguru Geto's past for the Hidden Inventory and Premature Death arcs that helped to explain why the two of them are enemies at the time of Jujutsu Kaisen 0 and beyond. It was necessary to set up some big events to come, and fans praised each of the episodes since.

This praise also comes from original Jujutsu Kaisen manga creator Gege Akutami as well. With Jujutsu Kaisen Season 2 Episode 5 bringing the Gojo flashback to an end and moving back into the present day, Akutami shared a special note with fans on Twitter praising how the anime team handled bringing this flashback to life. Recommending those interested in creating anime and manga to watch the five episodes of the arc, Akutami seemed certainly pleased as to how it all turned out.

What Jujutsu Kaisen's Creator Thinks of Episode 5

"Everything has been created with such painstaking care and detail, if they'd told me that Season 2 of the anime would be a flashback arc only, I wouldn't have doubted it for a second!!" Akutami began in a special message to fans (as translated by @soukatsu_ on Twitter). "I can't believe we're also getting Shibuya after all this!! Shoving aside my own original work for a minute here, but I really want to highly recommend to anyone who wants to be involved in creating manga or anime in the future to watch all five episodes of this past arc!! It's been five straight weeks of being overwhelmed by all the possibilities of the current generation and upcoming generation!!"

With the tease for what's coming our way in the rest of Jujutsu Kaisen Season 2, it's time to get ready for the Shibuya Incident with the next major arc of the season kicking off with Episode 6 airing on August 31st in Japan following a couple of weeks of breaks.

Black Clover Reveals Asta's New Anti-Magic Trick https://comicbook.com/anime/news/black-clover-asta-anti-magic-new-powers/ Mon, 07 Aug 2023 21:30:00 +0000 Nick Valdez cc51f1fc-57c2-445f-8d87-8ae9e71ded42

Black Clover is getting ready for the final battles of Yuki Tabata's manga series overall, and the newest chapter of Black Clover has revealed a new anti-magic trick Asta is bringing into the final arc! The Ultimate Wizard King arc started off on a terrible foot for Asta as he took a massive loss to Lucius Zogratis and was sent to the Land of the Sun before the final battles for the fate of the Clover Kingdom began. But upon getting sent to this new country, Asta ended up training in a whole new kind of technique that helped him take his anti-magic control to a new level.

The latest slate of Black Clover chapters have put the Black Bulls through the ringer as they had been trying to protect the Door of Fate ritual to quickly bring Asta back to the scene of the battle in the Clover Kingdom, and thankfully they were successful in this endeavor despite all of the near-death damage they took to make it happen. It's here Asta is able to help them quickly recover, and even become stronger, thanks to a new ability he's developed alongside his Zetten training. He can now pass on anti-magic to others.

Black Clover: Asta's New Anti-Magic Power Explained

Black Clover Chapter 367 picks up shortly after Asta was able to return to the battlefield and confirms that he was able to take out the Paladin Damnatio with a single Zetten strike. Confident in his ability to help the Black Bulls despite how near-death they all were, it's explained that Asta now has a greater control over his anti-magic powers than ever before thanks to his Zetten training. Ryuya theorizes that because Asta can make other things anti-magic with his power, it could be applied to people as well.

He also mentions that compatibility with anti-magic and time spent with the people are a factor, but the end of the chapter reveals that Asta was successful in sharing his power with the rest of the Black Bulls squad. Transforming them into the "Ultimate Black Bulls," now the final fights across the Clover Kingdom are at hand and the squad people once ridiculed are actually poised to save everyone before it's all said and done.

Demon Slayer Celebrates Muichiro's Birthday With Special Trailer https://comicbook.com/anime/news/demon-slayer-muichiro-birthday-anime-manga-trailer/ Mon, 07 Aug 2023 20:59:00 +0000 Nick Valdez 3072a5c9-7c1f-4cb3-aa72-6180c95816b2

Demon Slayer wrapped up its third season earlier this year, and the Demon Slayer: Kimetsu no Yaiba manga is celebrating Muichiro Tokito's role in it all with a special trailer celebrating the Mist Hashira's birthday. Although he was introduced alongside the rest of the Hashira line up during the first season of the anime, it wasn't until Demon Slayer Season 3 that Muichiro himself got into the center of the action. Facing off against a member of Muzan Kibutsuji's Upper Ranks through the Swordsmith Village Arc, fans got to see what the Mist Hashira was truly capable of in an all-out fight.

With Muichiro's birthday on August 8th in Japan, Shueisha took the occasion to celebrate how much the Mist Hashira accomplished during the Swordsmith Village Arc with a cool new trailer highlighting his biggest moments of the arc. Showing off the manga's take on everything that happened, Muichiro is now one of the fighters who will be returning to the anime when Demon Slayer Season 4 finally premieres in the near future. You can check out Muichiro's special celebratory birthday trailer below:

Where to Watch the Demon Slayer Anime

Now is the perfect time to catch up with the Demon Slayer anime so far as Demon Slayer Season 4 has been announced to be in the works and will be adapting the Hashira Training Arc from the Demon Slayer manga. There has yet to be a release window or date set for the next season of the anime as of this writing, but it will feature a returning staff and cast from the previous anime efforts. You can find the first three seasons of the Demon Slayer TV anime and Mugen Train Arc movie now streaming with Crunchyroll.

If you're jumping into the franchise for the first time, Crunchyroll teases the Demon Slayer: Kimetsu no Yaiba anime as such, "It is the Taisho Period in Japan. Tanjiro, a kindhearted boy who sells charcoal for a living, finds his family slaughtered by a demon. To make matters worse, his younger sister Nezuko, the sole survivor, has been transformed into a demon herself. Though devastated by this grim reality, Tanjiro resolves to become a 'demon slayer' so that he can turn his sister back into a human, and kill the demon that massacred his family."

The Summer 2023 season is winding down, and that means Cartoon Network is looking ahead to their Fall schedule to close out the year. While there are a number of new animated series now in the works, Cartoon Network's international library is full of major series that have huge fanbases around the world but have yet to make their debut in North America.

That's going to change for one series as The Heroic Quest of the Valiant Prince Ivandoe is finally going to make its premiere in the United States. Tove Lo Teams With Tokyo Mew Mew on New Music Video: Watch https://comicbook.com/anime/news/anime-music-video-tove-lo/ Mon, 07 Aug 2023 20:32:00 +0000 Megan Peters 0b1b72e8-0c8f-41f5-a1e7-dbb9b1a53b12

Are you ready to binge another anime music video? If so, you better check out the latest video release by Tove Lo. The Swedish singer has teamed up with Galverse NFT in Tokyo to create an anime MV for her new single, and it recruited help from Tokyo Mew Mew.

The new music video, as you can see above, brings anime magic to Tove Lo's single "I Like You." The track features adorable character designs by Toshi Ishino who oversees the art design for Tokyo Mew Mew New. Directed by Yuta Takamura and Ayaka Ohira, Tove Lo's anime music video is a trippy trek through space, and its 90s nostalgia is incredibly strong.

"I wanted to create something like a science fiction spectacle. I thought a lot about how to combine the sadness of love and a story on a cosmic scale. Tove and I talked about how we wanted to express the insecurity, vulnerability, and powerful strength of women, as well as the intense and bizarre side of Tove's character," Ohira shared.

As for what this music video is all about, Tove Lo's project brings the singer into the world of animation, and her anime avatar confronts a robot seen in a previous Tove Lo music video. As the wild video goes on, we see the singer take on everything from invading aliens to a scorpion power boost with deadly consequences. Truly, the anime MV has everything a good shojo series needs, so we're kind of obsessed with this take.

Of course, Tove Lo's anime music video is far from the first of its kind. A number of Japanese artists have used anime to bring their tracks to life and so too have international artists. In the past, acts like Linkin Park and Twice have used anime in its music videos to great success. And now, Tove Lo can be added to that list thanks to their throwback tribute.

Jujutsu Kaisen's Big Break-Up Sparks Response From KFC https://comicbook.com/anime/news/jujutsu-kaisen-anime-kfc-gojo-geto/ Mon, 07 Aug 2023 19:43:00 +0000 Megan Peters ff3dbd20-b67b-4d8d-aa2a-8c858e79f1a1

Jujutsu Kaisen has been delivering hit after hit this summer. Weeks ago, the hit anime marked its return with season two, and its version of Gojo's Past arc was sheer perfection. The comeback gave anime fans more context about Gojo and Geto's bond before the pair experienced a spectacular break up. And now, the emotional scene has sparked a reply from none other than KFC.

Oh yeah, you read that right. Kentucky Fried Chicken is getting in on this debacle now. Taking to social media, KFC began commenting on the Jujutsu Kaisen season 2 break up, and it seems the colonel is sick over Gojo and Geto.

"Still wiping our tears," KFC shared on Twitter after replying to one fan's still of the Jujutsu Kaisen break up. In the image, you can see Geto in all black walking down a sidewalk in Tokyo, and it is impossible to overlook the background here. After all, Geto is standing next to a KFC... or rather a KIC due to trademark issues.

In the Jujutsu Kaisen manga, creator Gege Akutami held the pair's break up in front of a KFC, and the absurd setting became a quick meme. Readers were eager to see how Jujutsu Kaisen would handle the break up, and it did so perfectly with help from KFC. After catching wind of the ordeal, the chain chicken restaurant had to speak up, so KFC is now deep in its feels with Jujutsu Kaisen fans.

Of course, this is not the last Jujutsu Kaisen will see of Gojo and Geto. The series puts plenty of focus on the Six Eyes user, and we know from Jujutsu Kaisen season one that Geto is still on a rampage. His challenge of war will kick off soon as Geto promised to upend jujutsu society on Halloween in Shibuya. This long-awaited arc will kick off when Jujutsu Kaisen season two returns to television this month. So if you need to brush up on the series, you better do so ASAP.

After all, Jujutsu Kaisen is streaming on Crunchyroll right now. For more details on the hit supernatural series, you can read its official synopsis below:

"For some strange reason, Yuji Itadori, despite his insane athleticism would rather just hang out with the Occult Club. However, her soon finds out that the occult is as real as it gets when his fellow club members are attacked! Meanwhile, the mysterious Megumi Fushiguro is tracking down a special-grade cursed object, and his search leads him to Itadori..."

One Piece: Gear 5 Luffy Makes a Ton of Tom & Jerry References https://comicbook.com/anime/news/one-piece-anime-gear-5-cartoon/ Mon, 07 Aug 2023 19:03:00 +0000 Megan Peters 19cdac30-07de-4e96-98ba-ff92d52739ed

One Piece has had one hell of a week, and the fun is far from over. Just days ago, the entire anime fandom rose up to welcome the anime's best episode in years. At last, the One Piece anime welcomed Gear 5 Luffy to the screen, and its animation was nothing short of incredible. Gear 5 Luffy has taken One Piece to a new level, and after careful viewing, fans have found a ton of Tom & Jerry nods in the anime's big event.

Over on social media, fans began to piece together the cartoon references in One Piece episode 1071. As you can see below, a number of Gear 5 moves shown in the anime make references to Tom & Jerry. From Luffy's slapstick laughter to his inflated physique and more, One Piece was not subtle with its homage to Tom & Jerry.

Anime fans were quick to spot these cartoony nods as they watched One Piece episode 1071, but as for manga readers? Well, they already knew to be on the lookout. One Piece made its Tom & Jerry throwback clear in the manga. In fact, series creator Eiichiro Oda confirmed the tribute in an interview overseas as he said making the cartoon homage was very difficult.

"For the concept, think of it as if I suddenly drew Tom and Jerry," Oda shared. "When I tried to draw it, it was actually difficult. The world of Tom and Jerry works because of the two of them. I suffered because of the difference in attitude when I looked at Luffy being the only one making pranks in battle and his opponent not. But I feel this time I was able to draw it."

Clearly, the team at Toei Animation was able to bring Oda's homage to Tom & Jerry to life, and there is more on the way. Gear 5 is all about untapped potential, joy, and the boundless power of imagination. When in this form, Luffy can make just about anything happen and that definitely includes slapstick nods to a classic cartoon. So if you are not caught up on One Piece, we suggest you start binging the Wano arc ASAP.

Not familiar with One Piece? Well, no sweat! The anime is easier to catch up on now than ever as it is streaming on Netflix and Crunchyroll. For more details on One Piece, you can read its official synopsis below:

"As a child, Monkey D. Luffy was inspired to become a pirate by listening to the tales of the buccaneer "Red-Haired" Shanks. But Luffy's life changed when he accidentally ate the Gum-Gum Devil Fruit and gained the power to stretch like rubber...at the cost of never being able to swim again! Years later, still vowing to become the king of the pirates, Luffy sets out on his adventure...one guy alone in a rowboat, in search of the legendary "One Piece," said to be the greatest treasure in the world..."

What do you think about this One Piece throwback? Did the debut of Gear 5 Luffy live up to your expectations? Let us know what you think in the comments below as well as on Twitter and Instagram. You can also hit me up @MeganPetersCB to share your take!

My Hero Academia Reveals All Might's Iron Man Armor https://comicbook.com/anime/news/my-hero-academia-all-might-iron-man/ Mon, 07 Aug 2023 18:00:00 +0000 Megan Peters f86db080-41bd-4cec-b32c-951df3d6c261

All Might is one of a kind. When fans met the hero in My Hero Academia, All Might felt like an impossible standard to reach. Dubbed the Symbol of Peace, All Might have been a guiding light since My Hero Academia began, and that track continued even after the hero left his pro career behind. And now, My Hero Academia's manga just put the legend back into battle with help from his own Iron Man suit.

Yes, you did read that right. My Hero Academia just took a big page from Marvel and Tony Stark's genius. All Might has unveiled his own Iron Man suit with the help of a familiar tech whiz, and it is allowing him the chance to fight All For One with no quirk.

As you can see in My Hero Academia chapter 396, All Might kickstarts the big update with his new suit. The outfit is dubbed Armored All Might, and it would make Iron Man proud. The suit is stored within his car, and All Might is able to activate the armor process by calling on its AI, Hercules. Much like in the Marvel Universe, this high-tech suit crawls over All Might to lock into place, and it comes with all sorts of gadgets.

Complete with a face plate, this All Might suit no doubt bears the hero's iconic colors, but there are tributes to other heroes here. For one, it seems Armored All Might features a metal cape similar to the one Deku inherited from Gran Torino. This version of All Might is truly an amalgamation of his desire to save others until the very end. Even without a quirk to his name, All Might is willing to face down the most powerful villain in the world, and All For One takes some bad hits for underestimating his nemesis.

As My Hero Academia moves forward, we can expect to see more of Armored All Might in action. The hero is not going down until he's out for the count, so All For One vs All Might is going to be an intense one this act. And before long, it will fall to Deku to finish up the war with his battle against Shigaraki.

If you are not caught up with the My Hero Academia manga, no worries! You can always brush up on the hit superhero series. My Hero Academia can be read in full through the Shonen Jump app. So for more info on All Might's tale, you can read its official synopsis below:

"Middle school student Izuku Midoriya wants to be a hero more than anything, but he hasn't got an ounce of power in him. With no chance of ever getting into the prestigious U.A. High School for budding heroes, his life is looking more and more like a dead end. Then an encounter with All Might, the greatest hero of them all, gives him a chance to change his destiny..."

My Hero Academia Creator Comments on Anime's 4th Movie https://comicbook.com/anime/news/my-hero-academia-4th-movie-anime/ Mon, 07 Aug 2023 14:47:00 +0000 Megan Peters 972de6e5-00ef-4c91-8545-529640daa1ef

My Hero Academia is gearing up for another big outing! While its new season is in the works behind the scenes, the team behind My Hero Academia just confirmed another anime project is gunning for Class 1-A. It turns out the anime is working on its fourth movie these days, and now, the creator of My Hero Academia is addressing the reveal in a new letter.

The update comes straight from Kohei Horikoshi as the artist posted a letter to fans through Shonen Jump. In the note, the creator of My Hero Academia is quick to give thanks to Toho and Studio Bones for working tirelessly on his series. After all, it is no easy feat to make an anime, and that goes doubly so when you're working on a TV season and movie at the same time.

"A 4th movie for My Hero Academia has just been confirmed! And that's thanks to your support, thank you so much! Bones and Toho are already working on new seasons of the anime nonstop, so I was really surprised when they told me there would be a new movie. I couldn't help but think back to my childhood, when a new Dragon Ball movie was released every year. Those made me so excited that I remember sitting in the movie theater with my heart racing like crazy. So I hope the new generation of kids around the world can enjoy this movie just as much as me back then," Horikoshi shared (via RukasuMHA).

The creator went on to preview what the new My Hero Academia movie would be about. As fans had hoped, it seems the project will take place after season six and give us a better look at Japan's crippled society. With villains ruling the city, we're sure Class 1-A will have their hands full in this flick, and Horikoshi is eager for fans to take in the original story.

"It'll take place after the War from season 6, meaning that the collapsed society will be the stage this time. After having been through so much and learning so many things, who will Deku and his friends fight against this time? What will they protect?! Look forward to it," the creator shared.

Obviously, My Hero Academia has a huge playground of content to explore in its fourth film, so anime fans are eager to see what it will do. For now, all they can do it wait and see how Deku's future shapes up on screen. If you aren't caught up with the My Hero Academia anime, we suggest you start watching ASAP! The series can be found on Hulu as well as Crunchyroll. So if you need more info on My Hero Academia, you can read its official synopsis below for all the details:

"Middle school student Izuku Midoriya wants to be a hero more than anything, but he hasn't got an ounce of power in him. With no chance of ever getting into the prestigious U.A. One Piece: Gear 5 Luffy vs. Kaido Fight Gets Perfect Ed, Edd n Eddy Remix https://comicbook.com/anime/news/one-piece-gear-5-luffy-kaido-fight-ed-edd-n-eddy/ Mon, 07 Aug 2023 03:41:00 +0000 Nick Valdez 71b8ed21-0631-45c0-bc7b-baf902bfbd38

One Piece has officially broken through into a new era with Gear 5 Luffy's highly anticipated debut in the anime, and one awesome fan has given Gear 5 Luffy's fight with Kaido in the newest episode a perfect remix with Ed, Edd n Eddy! One of the big ways that Gear 5 Luffy is such a dramatically different transformation from the others is the fact that it's deemed "ridiculous" by the World Government. It means Luffy can do pretty much anything he wants in this form, and the rest of the world around him turns more into a wacky cartoon as a result.

This includes a slate of new cartoon like sound effects that further emphasize how much Gear 5 Luffy is changing the world around him in One Piece Episode 1071, and fans have shown their love for this new cartoonish style after seeing it in action in the fight against Kaido. Now artist @bromojumbo on Twitter has taken that to the next level by fusing the action with one of the most "cartoonish" cartoons out there with Ed, Edd n Eddy's perfect sound effects amping up Gear 5 Luffy even more. Check it out below:

Where to Watch One Piece Episode 1071

If you wanted to check out One Piece Episode 1071 for yourself, you can now find it (along with the rest of the back catalog) now streaming with Crunchyroll. One Piece Episode 1071 is titled "Luffy's Peak - Attained! Gear Five" and Toei Animation teases the episode as such, "An amusing heartbeat unleashed! Both his allies and enemies got involved and are astounded. Is that free and flexible power a ridiculous thing or a token of freedom?! Fortune comes in by a merry gate...of Nika. Here comes the Warrior of Liberation who transcends all imagination!"

As for Ed, Edd n Eddy, you can now find the classic Cartoon Network animated series streaming on Max. They tease the cartoon as such, "Ed, Edd n Eddy tells the story of three best friends, who band together to tackle life's most daunting challenge. Though they have the same first name and live on the same cul-de-sac in the suburbs, the three youths have very different personalities."

New My Hero Academia Movie Will Explore a Fallen Hero Society https://comicbook.com/anime/news/my-hero-academia-movie-season-7-story-spoilers/ Mon, 07 Aug 2023 02:55:00 +0000 Nick Valdez 589e52be-9a57-4b3a-8ab7-e65c5c1dee4c

My Hero Academia has announced that the anime will be releasing its 4th movie next, and the first story details revealed about the next project tease that this new movie will be exploring the fallen hero society fans saw taking shape during the final episodes of My Hero Academia Season 6! The Final Act of Kohei Horikoshi's original My Hero Academia manga kicked off its first phase in the second half of Season 6 seen earlier this year, and with it teased that the hero world in Japan had been reduced to crumbles following everything Tomura Shigaraki and All For One had done during the Paranormal Liberation Front War.

My Hero Academia then launches right into another huge battle in the arcs that follow (that we'll see play out in My Hero Academia Season 7), but thankfully the next My Hero Academia movie will actually be spending some time in the ruined hero world left behind at the end of Season 6. As teased by series creator Kohei Horikoshi in a special message to fans about the new My Hero Academia movie, the fourth movie will take place after the war seen in Season 6 and the "collapsed society will be the stage."

What Will the 4th My Hero Academia Movie Be About?

My Hero Academia's next movie will feature an original story not seen in the manga or previous anime releases, and My Hero Academia series creator Kohei Horikoshi will oversee the project as general supervisor and will provide new character designs for the project. When teasing fans about what the next My Hero Academia movie will cover, Horikoshi stated, "It'll take place after the War from Season 6, meaning that the collapsed society will be the stage this time."

Teasing further about what could be coming in the movie, Horikoshi teased, "After having been through so much and learning so many things, who will Deku and his friends fight against this time? What will they protect?! Look forward to it!" With the original manga heading right into another massive war shortly after the last one, My Hero Academia didn't really get a lot of time to flesh out this new broken down society in Japan. So it looks like the new movie will help to fill in those gaps.

What are you hoping to see from My Hero Academia's next movie? Let us know all of your thoughts about it in the comments! You can even reach out to me directly about all things animation and other cool stuff @Valdezology on Twitter!

Black Clover Cliffhanger Unleashes the Ultimate Black Bulls https://comicbook.com/anime/news/black-clover-manga-ultimate-black-bulls-asta-anti-magic/ Mon, 07 Aug 2023 02:22:00 +0000 Nick Valdez 75b17a65-d26f-4b91-855f-b165dbcc766f

Black Clover has reached a major turning point in the final arc of Yuki Tabata's manga, and the cliffhanger from the newest chapter of the series has unleashed the the ultimate version of Asta's Black Bulls squad! The Ultimate Wizard King arc has been fairly transformative for Asta since it first began. Although he took a major loss to Lucius Zogratis and sent to the far away Land of the Sun, this ended up working out in Asta's favor as he was able to train with a new technique that would help level the playing field against the Paladins.

This training brought Asta to a whole new level of power for the final arc, and the Black Bulls previously bet everything on bringing Asta back to the Clover Kingdom with the Door of Fate ritual. Although they had taken lots of damage and all of them were near death in the fight against the Paladin Damnatio, they were successful in bringing Asta to the main battlefield. And as of the end of the newest Black Clover chapter, the Black Bulls have been rewarded with new power as a result of all that fighting to bring back Asta as he shared his anti-magic with them.

Black Clover: The Ultimate Black Bulls Explained

Black Clover Chapter 367 confirms that Asta was able to defeat Damnatio with a single use of his Zetten technique, and the Witch Queen uses the last of her magic to save the Black Bulls from death. She confirms that thanks to Nero's sealing magic powers, none of the Black Bulls had lost their lives despite all of the damage they had taken. A flashback then reveals that Ryuya helped Asta to figure out that because he can channel his Anti-Magic power into objects, he could have the ability to do the same to other people as well.

Asta then tests out this theory with a reverse use of his Demon Dweller sword, and thanks to his new better control of Anti-Magic forged through his Zetten training, Asta was able to share his demonic power with his fellow Black Bulls. Each of them comes back to life immediately, and is powered up for the real fight against the Paladins to come as they ready to turn the tables at last. But they're all together this time, and once they reunite with Noelle and Yami, things will certainly turn around.

Bleach: Thousand-Year Blood War Reveals Renji's True Bankai https://comicbook.com/anime/news/bleach-tybw-renji-bankai-so-oh-zabimaru-true-form/ Sun, 06 Aug 2023 21:58:00 +0000 Nick Valdez b18164bc-1aa7-4834-87cb-209bda85e30e

Bleach: Thousand-Year Blood War Part 2 - The Separation has brought Renji Abarai back to the action with the anime's newest episode, and with his comeback he has reached a new level of power with the reveal of his true Bankai, So-Oh Zabimaru! The first cour of episodes premiered last Fall saw Renji and a bunch of the other Soul Reapers taking some major damage in their first fights against Yhwach's Sternritter forces. Renji and a few select others were then selected by the Soul King's Squad Zero to take on some special training before the next major fight.

While the previous episodes have given some small updates on how Ichigo Kurosaki and the others were faring in their new training, much of Bleach's focus and time has been spent on how each of the Soul Reapers are faring against the Sternritters in the next major war. After introducing a pro wrestling inspired enemy in the newest episodes, Renji jumps into the fight in full and debuts the true form of his Bankai, So-Oh Zabimaru, that's much stronger than anything Renji has fought with in Bleach's anime before:

Bleach: Renji's New Bankai Explained

Bleach: Thousand-Year Blood War Episode 18 sees Renji return to the fight and take on the powerful Mask De Masculine, who fans just witnessed take out two Soul Reaper Captains and a few fan favorites with relative ease. It's explained that during Renji's training with Ichibe Hyosube in Squad Zero's territories that Renji didn't actually know the true name of his Zanpakuto. In fact, Renji had only been using half of the name of his Bankai all this time as his Zanpakuto didn't fully accept him despite how long they had fought together.

Ichibe also reveals that he was the one that came up with the "Shikai" and "Bankai" names to begin with, and thus knew the true name of Renji's Bankai. It's soon revealed that So-Oh Zabimaru has a much different kind of Bankai transformation that seen before and Renji easily defeats the Sternritter without much trouble. So it's clear that his training with Squad Zero has already paid off.

Which Anime Series Are Better Than Their Manga? https://comicbook.com/anime/news/anime-better-than-manga/ Sun, 06 Aug 2023 21:28:00 +0000 Megan Peters edd6b5fe-8b49-4bb9-b749-736d8f614671

There is a lot of anime out there to watch. Over the years, thousands of shows have flooded television networks and streaming services. From slice-of-life romps to dramatic romances, you can find anything you want in anime. A great number of these series make it to television after succeeding in print, and for a select few shows, these anime titles end up becoming something better than their source material.

It isn't often a show manages to outdo its manga, but it has happened a number of times. From classic shonen titles to recent thrillers, some stories have thrived on the air in ways its source material never managed. So if you want to check out some of these rare titles, you can check out our anime breakdown below:

----

Spy x Family

  • Spy x Family: As one of the newest shows on this list, Spy x Family has gone above and beyond with its anime. While its episodic manga features gorgeous artwork and cute characters, there is something about the cohesiveness of the Spy x Family anime that gives it an edge. Plus, there is no doubt Anya Forger levels up the hit series with her adorable voice and quirks!
  • Where to Watch: Hulu, Crunchyroll

Mob Psycho 100

  • Mob Psycho 100: Created by ONE, the Mob Psycho 100 web-comic is a cult hit, and Studio Bones took it to new heights with its anime. If you did not know, Mob Psycho 100 is regarded as one of the studio's best shows to date, and its colorful animation knows no equal. Mob's character growth is so special to see play out in real time, so we cannot recommend Mob Psycho 100 enough.
  • Where to Watch: Hulu, Crunchyroll

Yu Yu Hakusho

  • Yu Yu Hakusho: There is no denying that Yu Yu Hakusho is a classic. The shonen series put creator Yoshihiro Togashi on the map, and the creator helped turn the anime into something truly special. With fleshed-out character arcs and vital original plot lines, the Yu Yu Hakusho anime is the definite telling of Togashi's beloved tale.
  • Where to Watch: Hulu, Funimation, Crunchyroll, Tubi

Made in Abyss

  • Made in Abyss: You might not think Made in Abyss would be so dark by its cute art style but then you'd be wrong. The hit series is scarring at best, and much of its devastation comes from the anime's pacing. From its voicing acting to its narrative arrangement, the Made in Abyss anime is a totally different beast from its manga, and it is one we prefer, no question.
  • Where to Watch: Amazon Prime, HIDIVE, Crunchyroll

Haikyuu

  • Haikyuu: Sports stories are hugely popular in manga, and there is something so satisfying seeing them come to life on screen. The tension and motion needed to drive excitement feels more real on television somehow, and Haikyuu is the perfect example of this. Paired with some incredible scores, the matches of Haikyuu soar on screen, so the show definitely has an edge over its manga.
  • Where to Watch: Crunchyroll

K-On

  • K-On: What is a music manga without music? There are tons of music-centric series in print, and while they may be compelling to read, they are that much better when put to screen. With music at its back, shows like K-On come to life as intended when turned into an anime, and it makes the manga shine in turn. So if you like idol series, then you better be binging their anime adaptations ASAP.
  • Where to Watch: Crunchyroll, HIDIVE

Monthly Girls Nozaki

  • Monthly Girls Nozaki: It can be hard to nail comedy anime adaptations, but Monthly Girls' Nozaki-kun does it with ease. The show may have short episodes, but it delivers much-needed context to the manga's original four-panel design. From its leads to its extras, this anime gives all its characters room to breathe, and that makes the rom-com hit even harder with its jokes.
  • Where to Watch: HIDIVE, Crunchyroll

Usagi Drop

  • Usagi Drop: Sometimes, an anime needs to know when to end. Usagi Drop is a cute father-daughter tale on the screen, and its cute narrative is an easy watch for anyone. This already makes it far superior to the Usagi Drop manga which ends up turning its father-daughter into a couple after a time skip. There are some things we don't need to see, and the Usagi Drop anime knew that when it wrapped its story where it did. Enough said.
  • Where to Watch: Tubi, Crunchyroll

Gintama

  • Gintama: There are few parodies in anime as beloved as Gintama. The shonen series loves to comment on the industry as a whole, and its manga spent ages drafting these jokes. Once it came to television, Gintama took on new life as its cast truly elevated Gintoki's gang in ways readers never expected. So if you have not yet checked out this adaptation, do so soon!
  • Where to Watch: Hulu, Crunchyroll

Hunter x Hunter

  • Hunter x Hunter: Another Togashi hit made it to this list after Yu Yu Hakusho, and we have Hunter x Hunter to thank. This franchise is hugely popular with readers, and manga fans love Hunter x Hunter for its intricate story. However, there is something about its 2011 anime that streamlines all its tangents. Togashi's love of exposition is distilled for television, and the Hunter x Hunter anime is a smooth watch as such. So if you struggle to take in the manga's dialogue, we recommend binging Hunter x Hunter ASAP.
  • Where to Watch: Netflix, Tubi, Pluto, Crunchyroll, The Roku Channel, Hulu

What do you think about this list of must-watch shows? Are there any anime missing from this breakdown? Let us know what you think in the comments below as well as on Twitter and Instagram. You can also hit me up @MeganPetersCB to share your take!

One Piece Debuts First New Ending in 17 Years: Watch https://comicbook.com/anime/news/one-piece-anime-new-ending-chill-beans/ Sun, 06 Aug 2023 20:28:00 +0000 Nick Valdez fdb48ff3-830f-4106-a87a-9f15a062d0ae

One Piece has debuted the anime's first new ending theme sequence in 17 long years with the newest episode of the series! One Piece has kicked off a whole new era of the anime with the true climax of the Wano Country arc as the fight between Luffy and Kaido on the roof of Onigashima's Skull Dome has reached a whole new level of ridiculousness. But as the fight continues, the anime has marked this major turning point in the series by breaking a streak that had gone on for 17 years with the introduction of a full ending theme sequence.

One Piece Episode 1071 really took over the world with Gear 5 Luffy's highly anticipated debut in the anime, but this was far from the only celebration that One Piece did for the occasion. This episode also introduced the first new ending theme sequence since 2006, "Raise" as performed by Chill Beans. It's a surreal moment seeing a new ending theme in nearly two decades, and you can check out the creditless version of One Piece's new ending sequence below as released by One Piece's official YouTube channel:

How to Watch One Piece Episode 1071

This is the first new ending theme for the One Piece anime since Delicatessen's "Adventure World," which ended its run with Episode 278 way back in 2006, and since then we've been getting longer versions of the opening themes instead. But that's changed with One Piece Episode 1071 as it's the first time we've seen Gear 5 Luffy in action in the series too. If you wanted to check out the episode for yourself, you can now find the newest episode of One Piece (along with the rest of the back catalog) now streaming with Crunchyroll.

One Piece Episode 1071 is titled "Luffy's Peak - Attained! Gear Five" and Toei Animation teased the episode as such, "An amusing heartbeat unleashed! Both his allies and enemies got involved and are astounded. Is that free and flexible power a ridiculous thing or a token of freedom?! Fortune comes in by a merry gate...of Nika. Here comes the Warrior of Liberation who transcends all imagination!"

New Black Clover Promo Sparks Fears of Manga Hiatus https://comicbook.com/anime/news/black-clover-manga-moving-break-ending/ Sun, 06 Aug 2023 20:17:00 +0000 Megan Peters cb7f021a-da0c-4b18-8d42-897df7c34d6a

It is hard to believe Black Clover is nearly 10 years old now. After making its debut in 2015, the hit shonen has churned out an anime of its own along with an original movie. In the back, series creator Yui Tabata is still working hard on Black Clover, and that can be seen with its final act. After a hiatus, Black Clover returned to print with Asta leading the charge on its final act, but now a new promo has fans fearing the worst for the manga.

The whole thing came to light as this week's issue of Shonen Jump came to light. It was there fans did some digging and noticed something strange in the code. Under its tab for current series, users can find a photo featuring Shonen Jump's biggest series including Black Clover, but a hidden image has been added to the website that removes Asta entirely.

At this point, the image without Black Clover is only accessible if you dig through some code, but the image's existence has sparked plenty of fear. After all, Shonen Jump is pretty good about keeping its images updated on its official site. If there is an image waiting in the wings without Black Clover, well - you can see why fans are concerned.

The image could be nothing, of course, but fans are already going wild with speculation. From a longterm hiatus to a complete magazine move, Black Clover could be heading for a big shift. At the moment, readers believe any announcement involving this updated image will hold for a few more weeks. Black Clover just needs to release two more chapters before it can fill a trade volume, but after that, the manga is fair game for any move. But as Black Clover is in its final act, manga fans are on high alert for any news regarding Asta.

If you have not read Black Clover or checked out its anime, you might as well get caught up ASAP. The anime is available to stream everywhere from Hulu to Crunchyroll. As for its manga, Black Clover can be found on the Shonen Jump app. So for more details, you can read the story's official synopsis below:

"Asta is a young boy who dreams of becoming the greatest mage in the kingdom. Only one problem-he can't use any magic! Luckily for Asta, he receives the incredibly rare five-leaf clover grimoire that gives him the power of anti-magic. Can someone who can't use magic really become the Wizard King? One thing's for sure-Asta will never give up!"

What do you think about this Black Clover rumor? Do you feel Asta is about to move magazines? Let us know what you think in the comments below as well as on Twitter and Instagram. You can also hit me up @MeganPetersCB to share your take!

One Piece: Luffy's Gear 5 Episode Really Broke the Internet https://comicbook.com/anime/news/one-piece-gear-5-episode/ Sun, 06 Aug 2023 19:40:00 +0000 Megan Peters 001c3189-5bec-4188-81fa-5aaae43d91af

One Piece really is a global phenomenon. After decades on the scene, the manga and anime continue to dominate sales across the world. Though seen as a hard sell in the United States years ago, Luffy and the Straw Hat crew have tons of stateside fans now, and that number is only growing. That much was made clear this weekend as One Piece episode 1071 just went live to global fanfare, and the demand for Gear 5 Luffy really did break the Internet.

If you don't know what all the fuss is about One Piece, well - we are here to break things down. This week marks the debut of One Piece episode 1071, and the release put Gear 5 Luffy on the global stage. After more than a year of waiting, the One Piece anime got around to adapting Gear 5 Luffy at last, and the whole affair was hyped by Toei Animation. So of course, anticipation was high to watch the big premiere.

And so what did fans do? They made sure to be on Crunchyroll and other streaming services like Hulu well before One Piece dropped. This influx led to major outages at Crunchyroll as here you can see here. At the time the One Piece episode debuted in Japan (not in the United States), users were already indicating outage issues. And when episode 1071 did go live, more than 8000 outage reports flooded in for Crunchyroll.

And to be honest, even piracy sites went down. One Piece fans who tried to find illicit means of watching Gear 5 Luffy's debut were thwarted. The big One Piece premiere took everything down, and while these technical limitations have been resolved, One Piece is still in headlines. The anime has been trending globally for more than 24 hours, and Luffy was even gifted his own Gear 5 emoji on Twitter.

Obviously, the hype for One Piece is high, and Luffy's new Gear form has only heightened the hit show's profile. This timing is great considering all of the things One Piece has in store. As its manga moves through its final act, Netflix's One Piece TV series is set to debut at the end of this month. With all these projects in mind, there has never been a better time to be a One Piece fan. So if you want to learn more about the seafaring shonen, you can read its official synopsis below for all the info!

What do you think about this global One Piece event? Did the debut of Gear 5 live up to expectations? Let us know what you think in the comments below as well as on Twitter and Instagram. You can also hit me up @MeganPetersCB to share your take!

Jujutsu Kaisen Season 2 Shares New Shibuya Character Designs https://comicbook.com/anime/news/jujutsu-kaisen-season-2-shibuya-arc-character-art/ Sun, 06 Aug 2023 19:10:00 +0000 Megan Peters 33be7d9d-d864-4495-a0a1-beab711e4726

Jujutsu Kaisen is gearing up for its biggest anime arc yet. The show made its return to television this summer with an arc focused on Gojo's past, but that storyline just came to a close. It is now time for Jujutsu Kaisen season 2 to tackle the manga's Shibuya arc, and the anime just posted new character art for the story.

As you can see below, the team at MAPPA Studios released the character art for Jujutsu Kaisen's Shibuya arc earlier today. The artwork put three major players together ahead of their showdown with jujutsu society. Geto, Mahito, and Choso can all be seen here. And yes, they are ready to slaughter any sorcerer in their way.

jujutsu-kaisen.jpg
(Photo: MAPPA )

To the left, Geto can be seen in his usual outfit with his long hair pulled back. Donning navy robes and a green shift, Geto is just as formidable as ever, and Jujutsu Kaisen season 2 spent its first half breaking down the sorcerer's power. As for Mahito, the deranged villain is prepared for war in his usual black ensemble while Choso looks collected in his draft. Dressed in purple and white, the half-curse human will be taking on Yuji before much longer.

Jujutsu Kaisen season 2 will be on a break this coming week, but when it returns, MAPPA Studios will bring the Shibuya arc to life. Geto set the whole fiasco in motion when he challenged Gojo to the duel before his apparent death, and the war will be jujutsu society on the line. From a political and power standpoint, the next arc of Jujutsu Kaisen season 2 will change the status quo of the anime. So if you aren't caught up with the show, we recommend you get binging ASAP.

If you want to brush up on Jujutsu Kaisen, the anime is streaming on Crunchyroll right now. For more details on the series, you can read its official synopsis here: "For some strange reason, Yuji Itadori, despite his insane athleticism would rather just hang out with the Occult Club. However, her soon finds out that the occult is as real as it gets when his fellow club members are attacked! Meanwhile, the mysterious Megumi Fushiguro is tracking down a special-grade cursed object, and his search leads him to Itadori..."

The Powerpuff Girls Get a Modern Makeover in New Fan-Made Tribute: Watch https://comicbook.com/anime/news/the-powerpuff-girls-reanimated-cartoon/ Sun, 06 Aug 2023 18:54:00 +0000 Megan Peters ce6ce613-36cf-4f2e-8bc0-3287f9da1397

The Powerpuff Girls made their debut decades ago, but their legacy lives on. From live-action projects to K-pop collabs, the show's animated superheroes are still incredibly popular. With the IP's nostalgia at a high, The Powerpuff Girls fandom recently came together to pay homage to Bubbles, Blossom, and Buttercup. So if you want to see an updated take on a Powerpuff Girls classic jam, you can watch The Powderpuff Girls Reanimate above!

The unofficial revival takes The Powerpuff Girls and gives it a modern twist with help from some talented fans. Done in all sorts of art styles, this fan-project reanimates The Powerpuff Girls as they perform a classic song from the cartoon. Of course, the single is none other than "Love Makes the World Go Round", and fans will remember this jam from an old-school episode of the series.

When "Mime for a Change" was released, it saw our three heroines take the stage to perform this song. The track, which was written by David Smith, went on to become a sort-of anthem for The Powerpuff Girls fandom. The song has been stuck in our heads since 1999, and now this reanimated project is giving the classic single new life.

You can watch the full tribute above as one of the project's leads Breanna Watson shared it online. The fan-made video proves the love for The Powerpuff Girls is thriving, and that is impressive given the show debuted in 1998. The show's core themes of family and girl power remain as important today as ever, so it is no surprise to see how much love the Powerpuff Girls get to this day. And of course, you can catch up on the show today quite easily thanks to streaming.

After all, Cartoon Network still airs The Powerful Girls on cable while streamers like Max and Netflix have its catalog available online. For more details on the hit Cartoon Network series, you can read its full synopsis below:

"In the city of Townsville, the frustrated Professor Utonium is gathering all the ingredients to make a perfect little girl (sugar, spice, and everything nice). But when his lab assistant, a monkey named Jojo, causes the accidental addition of Chemical X to the mix, the Professor ends up with not one but 3 perfect, powerful little girls. It soon becomes obvious that Blossom, Bubbles, and Buttercup are not normal girls, they have superpowers and have not yet learned to control. The girls are treated like outcasts because they have inadvertently wrecked Townsville in a superpowered game of tag. To win the hearts of the people of Townsville, the girls are tricked into making a deal with Jojo who plans to take over Townsville. As the girls foil this threat and defeat an army of superpowered monkeys, the Powerpuff Girls learn that with great power comes great responsibility."

Netflix's One Piece Exec Reveals the Two Things Eiichiro Oda Demanded https://comicbook.com/anime/news/one-piece-netflix-eiichiro-oda-demands/ Sun, 06 Aug 2023 16:31:00 +0000 Megan Peters 7560ae5d-10bb-445c-b5a0-f31c143a147f

The wait for Netflix's One Piece is almost over. The show is slated to drop at the end of this month, and of course, all eyes are on the Straw Hat crew. Luffy and his team are living large ahead of their live-action debut now that its countdown has begun. And in a recent interview, the showrunner of Netflix's One Piece shared the two demands series creator Eiichiro Oda had for the project.

Recently, Shueisha posted new info about One Piece ahead of its launch, and it was there showrunner Matt Owens spoke up. The executive said Oda had a number of requests for the live-action adaptation, but there were two major things the creator wanted to vet about Netflix's show.

The first? Owens said Oda was set on keeping the Straw Hats' backstories the same. "They're so pivotal to who they are as people, what their dreams and motivations are, and how Luffy digs into that as he meets them and helps them rediscover those dreams."

And for the second demand, Oda focused on the characters' different abilities. "Specific devil fruit powers and other skill sets were all carefully crafted by Oda and a lot of imagination went into what different people can do and what the rules are with that," Owen shared. This means we can expect to see plenty of showy fights at Netflix's One Piece works through its first season. So if you are ready to watch the live-action adaptation, get ready! The project is expected to drop at the end of August 2023.

If you are not familiar with One Piece, you can always brush up on the series ahead of Netflix's big launch. The adaptation will bring the manga's East Blue saga to life, so you can watch the One Piece anime on Hulu and Crunchyroll for updates. As for the manga, One Piece can be read online courtesy of the Shonen Jump app or Manga Plus. So for more info on the series, you can read its official synopsis below:

"As a child, Monkey D. Luffy was inspired to become a pirate by listening to the tales of the buccaneer "Red-Haired" Shanks. But Luffy's life changed when he accidentally ate the Gum-Gum Devil Fruit and gained the power to stretch like rubber...at the cost of never being able to swim again! Years later, still vowing to become the king of the pirates, Luffy sets out on his adventure...one guy alone in a rowboat, in search of the legendary "One Piece," said to be the greatest treasure in the world..."

What do you think about Oda's requests for One Piece? Are you going to be watching Netflix's adaptation? Let us know what you think in the comments below as well as on Twitter and Instagram. You can also hit me up @MeganPetersCB to share your take!

Digimon Got Away With a NSFW Easter Egg Years Ago https://comicbook.com/anime/news/digimon-anime-movie-nsfw-poster/ Sun, 06 Aug 2023 16:06:00 +0000 Megan Peters 097a0c41-628b-477d-ad70-82f06f4a3bbc

Digimon has been around for decades now, and it is only growing. Back in the day, kids across the globe tuned in to watch Tai and the gang go on adventures, and those once-young fans have now grown into adults. Their nostalgia for all things Digimon is real, and this had led to a surge in popularity as of late. This push can be seen very easily with Digimon Adventure 02, and thanks to its comeuppance, fans are finally noticing a NSFW detail in the anime.

The whole thing came to light on social media after fans reviewed Digimon Adventure 02: Revenge of Diaboromon. The movie, which went live in Japan back in 2001, made its U.S. launch years later. The English dub went live in August 2005, and it brought Diaboromon to life. When Tai, Kari, and others are trapped in the Internet by the beat, it falls to the 02 team to save them. The group gets to work saving their friends in the Digital World all while fighting off Diaboromon in the Real World.

In the end, the DigiDestined are able to send the vengeful monster back to the Digital World, so this action-packed plot kept fans entertained. In fact, it kept fans hooked to the point they missed a NSFW poster hiding in the movie. As you can see above, fans began circulating the hidden nod online after audiences noticed the localized poster. The promo is advertising a band known as "Neikd Star", and it only gets worse from there.

After all, the poster features a crude symbol of sex using the gender signs for males and females. The in-anime promo also says the concert will be a "shocking night, f-cking night." Honestly, there is no good reason a poster this vulgar made it into Digimon Adventure 02 given its demographic. But alas, it made the cut.

If you have never seen Digimon Adventure 02: The Revenge of Diaboromon, you can see this poster yourself by picking up a copy of the movie. Physical editions of the 2001 film are available on Amazon. As for Digimon Adventure 02, the anime is gearing up for a rerelease in the United States. So for those wanting more details on the show, you can read its official synopsis below:

"Four years after Tai, Mimi and the rest of the Digidestined brought peace to the digital world and found their way back home, the Digimon Emperor - a new villain - threatens the world and its Digital Monsters. With some the original kids off to junior high, a new generation is chosen to defend and save the world from evil. Davis, Yolei, Cody, and Ken join T.K and Kari to form the new Digidestined team. Together they journey back to the Digital World to battle the Digimon Emperor and free all the Digital Monsters from his control."

My Hero Academia Just Revealed Deku's Idol Makeover https://comicbook.com/anime/news/my-hero-academia-deku-manga-camie/ Sun, 06 Aug 2023 15:41:00 +0000 Megan Peters ab16c57c-7b59-477f-a2ef-f797f2f6da69

My Hero Academia knows how to play up the drama, but in the same vein, it is also the definition of unserious. Time and again, we have seen the manga's pros and villains rile up their troops with any number of jokes. All Might is particularly good at provoking laughter, and for the new generation, Camie has taken up the mantle in her own way. And with her help, My Hero Academia just gave Deku a glitzy idol makeover.

The whole thing came to light this month as My Hero Academia: Team-Up Missions went live. It was there the spin-off series checked in on Camie as the girl began training up her illusion quirk. After failing to secure Todoroki's help in training, Deku steps in to help out Camie, but things take a turn before long.

After all, Deku gives Camie a rundown on heroes for her to try mimicking, but his lessons aren't used as expected. Camie uploads a video online for all to see, and it begins with the girl making herself look like Deku. But instead of the hero looking normal, he is given a K-pop makeover complete with defined curls and glistening teeth.

"I'm not going to tell you about heroes," Camie notes in the video while looking like Deku. "I'm going to tell you all about me."

The heartthrob look leaves Deku stunned, but this is not the first time My Hero Academia has seen Camie do this. After all, she made an illusion of Shoto Todoroki back in the day, and it turns the Class 1-A star into an idol. Bakugo went on to mock the whole ordeal during the crew's remedial courses. So now, it is only fair that Izuku experiences the situation for himself.

If you are not familiar with My Hero Academia: Team-Up Missions, the spin-off series shows what happens with our favorites outside of the mainline series. From intense training missions to slice-of-life lessons, this hit manga has it all. Right now, Viz Media oversees the release of My Hero Academia: Team-Up Missions in the United States, and you can find out more about the superhero series below thanks to its official synopsis:

"Middle school student Izuku Midoriya wants to be a hero more than anything, but he hasn't got an ounce of power in him. With no chance of ever getting into the prestigious U.A. High School for budding heroes, his life is looking more and more like a dead end. Then an encounter with All Might, the greatest hero of them all, gives him a chance to change his destiny..."

What do you think about this My Hero Academia update? Are you loving this Deku makeover? Let us know what you think in the comments below as well as on Twitter and Instagram. You can also hit me up @MeganPetersCB to share your take!

One Piece: Gear 5 Luffy's Debut Features the Anime's Best Animation of All-Time https://comicbook.com/anime/news/one-piece-anime-1071-gear-5-animation/ Sun, 06 Aug 2023 15:15:00 +0000 Megan Peters 5cf002fd-8fc1-4ff6-b6d3-3581b02b3fc9

The day has come, One Piece fans. It feels like we have been waiting ages for Luffy to unpack his next gear form, and the Straw Hat pirate has done so at last. This weekend marked the premiere of One Piece episode 1071, and it gave Gear 5 Luffy a proper introduction to the world. And as we all hoped, the episode took Luffy to the next level this weekend with some of the anime's best animation to date.

As you can see below, the animation for One Piece episode 1071 is impressive to say the least. A number of key animators were brought in to oversee Luffy's new form, and they did not come to play. Luffy pulled all the stops for his comeback against Kaido, and some of his Gear 5 scenes are too good for words.

In particular, One Piece popped off with a scene penned by Weilin Zhang and Vincent Chansard. The combo shows Luffy in his Gear 5 form as he takes on Kaido in his full dragon form. Filled with laughter, Luffy is seen turning the field around him to rubber as he manages to shoot back a dragon blast at Kaido. From start to finish, this Zhang-Chansard tribute is perfect. It also marks the former animator's first foray into the One Piece world, so Zhang did not hold back with his debut.

It goes without saying that One Piece episode 1071 is good, and the anime fandom is geeking out. As soon as the release went live late last night, anime streaming services such as Crunchyroll struggled to keep up with demand. Most of these technical issues have been resolved, so One Piece episode 1071 is now available to stream. You can check out the anime's stunning new animation and tell us whether Gear 5 Luffy is living up to expectations.

Want to know more about One Piece? No worries! You can read up on the anime's official synopsis below: "As a child, Monkey D.

New My Hero Academia Movie Announced https://comicbook.com/anime/news/my-hero-academia-movies-new-anime/ Sun, 06 Aug 2023 14:47:00 +0000 Nick Valdez 1373d0ff-05f1-4cef-a55e-2088531b705f

My Hero Academia might currently be working on Season 7 of the anime, but now it has been announced that a new My Hero Academia movie is also in the works! My Hero Academia Season 6 ended with the first major of the Final Act coming to an end. Izuku Midoriya had officially ended his stint as a vigilante hero, and the rest of Class 1-A and the remaining pro heroes were getting ready for the final fight against the villains. With some of the most intense fights still yet to come, the anime's gotten even more interesting with the fact that there will be a movie coming in between all of that too!

My Hero Academia has announced that a new movie is now in the works. While there is no official title or release window for the fourth My Hero Academia movie as of the time of this writing, it has been revealed by My Hero Academia series creator Kohei Horikoshi in a statement to Shueisha's Weekly Shonen Jump magazine that the new movie will feature a new story that takes place after the events of My Hero Academia Season 6 that explores more of the broken hero world seen in the finale.

What to Know for My Hero Academia's 4th Movie

"Hello everyone, I'm Kohei Horikoshi author of My Hero Academia," Horikoshi's statement to Shueisha began about the announcement. "A 4th movie for [My Hero Academia] has just been confirmed! And that's thanks to your support, thank you so much! Bones and Toho are already working on new seasons of the anime nonstop, so I was really surprised when they told me there would be a new movie. I couldn't help but think back to my childhood, when a new Dragon Ball movie was released every year. Those made my so excited that I remember sitting in the movie theater with my heart racing like crazy."

"So I hope the new generation of kids around the world can enjoy this movie just as much as me back then," Horikoshi continued with a tease of where in the anime it will take place, "It'll take place after the War from Season 6, meaning that the collapsed society will be the stage this time. After having been through so much and learning so many things, who will Deku and his friends fight against this time? What will they protect?! Look forward to it!"

Are you excited to see a new My Hero Academia movie coming soon? What are you hoping to see in the next My Hero Academia movie? Let us know all of your thoughts about it in the comments! You can even reach out to me directly about all things animation and other cool stuff @Valdezology on Twitter!

One Piece Cosplay Hypes Up Gear 5 Luffy's Anime Debut https://comicbook.com/anime/news/one-piece-gear-5-luffy-anime-cosplay/ Sun, 06 Aug 2023 01:41:00 +0000 Nick Valdez 5051d808-c403-4035-91dd-9125e6220b0a

One Piece will be ushering in a whole new era for Monkey D. Luffy with his next major transformation, and one awesome cosplay is helping to hype up Gear 5 Luffy's anime debut by bringing it to life in anticipation! The One Piece anime is now in the true climax of the Wano Country arc as after Luffy took his latest loss to Kaido, he was pronounced dead. But this is far from the end of the war across Onigashima as Luffy is only getting started and has started to unlock a brand new transformation before the end of the anime's latest episode.

Gear 5 is such a significantly different transformation for Luffy than any of the previous Gear forms seen previously, and that's why it's been the most anticipated One Piece anime episode of the year overall. With Luffy now reaching this new level of power and bringing the fight against Kaido to its proper end in the coming episodes, artist xeplay_cosplay on TikTok has brought Gear 5 Luffy to life with some awesome cosplay ahead of the new form's big introduction in the One Piece anime! Futurama Teases "Crypto Country" in Episode 3 Sneak Peek Clip https://comicbook.com/anime/news/futurama-season-11-episode-3-crypto-country-clip/ Sat, 05 Aug 2023 23:54:00 +0000 Nick Valdez b7e278d9-3fa3-4390-8422-1b679c4b79b6

The new Futurama season has been a major hit with fans so far for its comeback on Hulu, and a new sneak peek clip from Episode 3 of Futurama Season 11 teases the show's take on cryptocurrency with the introduction of "Crypto Country." Futurama's newest season has only just gotten started with its run on Hulu, and fans have already shown their appreciation for the fact that the series seemingly has not lost a step despite it being ten years since it ended its second run on Comedy Central. It's made each new episode all the more curious than ever as a result.

The first two episodes had been spent not only filling in some gaps left from the older seasons, but taking shots at current issues such as streaming show reboots. Now it seems like Futurama is going to share its take on the cryptocurrency boom as the sneak peek clip for Futurama Season 11 Episode 3 teases that the Planet Express crew will be heading to "Crypto Country" to mine all of the bitcoin (which is a physical thing in the year 3023, apparently). Check out the sneak peek at Futurama Season 11 Episode 3 below:

Where to Watch Futurama Season 11 Episode 3

Futurama Season 11 Episode 3 is titled "How the West Was 1010001," and Hulu teases the episode as such, "Bender and the crew head west to join the bitcoin mining rush." Futurama Season 11 is now streaming on a weekly basis with Hulu, and will be ten episodes long. The series has been revived for two seasons overall with original co-creators Matt Groening and David X. Cohen returning as executive producers together with the also returning Ken Keeler and Claudia Katz. As for what's coming this season overall, Hulu teases Futurama Season 11 as such:

"After a brief ten-year hiatus, Futurama has crawled triumphantly from the cryogenic tube, its full original cast and satirical spirit intact. The ten all-new episodes of season eleven have something for everyone. New viewers will be able to pick up the series from here, while long-time fans will recognize payoffs to decades-long mysteries - including developments in the epic love story of Fry and Leela, the mysterious contents of Nibbler's litter box, the secret history of evil Robot Santa, and the whereabouts of Kif and Amy's tadpoles. Meanwhile there's a whole new pandemic in town as the crew explores the future of vaccines, bitcoin, cancel culture, and streaming TV."

Bleach Creator Celebrates Their Own Wrestling Superstar in New Sketch https://comicbook.com/anime/news/bleach-tite-kubo-wwe-superstar-anime-manga-art/ Sat, 05 Aug 2023 23:28:00 +0000 Nick Valdez a4fa5b30-b124-4214-b50d-88805eaea7c8

Bleach: Thousand-Year Blood War Part 2 - The Separation has been showing off one intense Sternritter after another, and the creator behind it all is celebrating their own wrestling superstar with a fun new sketch for Mask De Masculine! Bleach: Thousand-Year Blood War has been adapting the long awaited final arc from Tite Kubo's original Bleach manga, and that means we're finally seeing each of the Sternritter use their powerful abilities against the Soul Reapers. Each of them has also been shown to have wildly different fighting styles from one another too as a result of the powers received from Yhwach.

Bleach's previous episode introduced a pro wrestling inspired fighter who seemed weaker than he was at first until his "fan" started to call out for him and give him a power up. This dynamic continues in his highlight episode seen this week as Mask De Masculine gets into his first full fight against the Soul Reapers. He left quite the impact as a result, and Bleach series creator Tite Kubo is celebrating this villain's spotlight in the anime with a special new sketch released for the newest episode. Check it out below as shared with fans on Twitter:

How to Watch Bleach: Thousand-Year Blood War Episode 18

Bleach: Thousand-Year Blood War Part 2 - The Separation is now streaming its new episodes outside of Japan on Hulu, with the simulcast in English and Latin American Spanish; and on Star+ and Disney+ with English, Latin American Spanish, Brazilian Portuguese, French, German, and Italian subtitles. Bleach: Thousand-Year Blood War Episode 18 is titled "Rages at Ringside," and Hulu teases it as such:

"Kensei Muguruma joins the battle against Masculine, who has already defeated Shuhei Hisagi, Ikkaku Madarame, and Yumichika Ayasegawa. However, Kensei is taken aback by how weak his opponent is." We've seen a few of the Sternritter's wild abilities in the episodes so far, but the fights are truly only beginning as there are still many players who have gotten into any of the action for themselves. It's another reason to jump into the newest season before it ramps up even further.

But how are you liking seeing each of the Sternritters' powers in the Bleach anime so far? Let us know all of your thoughts about it in the comments! You can even reach out to me directly about all things animation and other cool stuff @Valdezology on Twitter!

Goblin Slayer Season 2 has been readying for its big return to screens later this year, and now Goblin Slayer Season 2 has finally confirmed a proper release window ahead of the anime's new episodes! Goblin Slayer had one of the most controversial anime debuts of the last few years as the first season adapting Kumo Kagyu and Noboru Kannatsuki's original Goblin Slayer light novels kicked off with one of the most infamous first episodes. But at the end of the first season, it was quickly announced that the anime would be continuing further with both an OVA and later the confirmed Season 2.

Previously announcing a 2023 release window for the new season, Goblin Slayer has released a new trailer for Season 2 that confirms that the new episodes will be premiering this October. Along with confirming the new opening theme titled "Entertainment" as performed by Mili, and a new ending theme titled "Kasumi no Muko e" as performed by Yuki Nakashima, you can check out the first full look at the next season of Goblin Slayer in the trailer below:

Goblin Slayer Season 2 will be releasing some time this October as part of the Fall 2023 anime schedule, but has not yet revealed a concrete release date as of this writing. Featuring a returning cast and staff from the first season of the anime, Goblin Slayer Season 2 will be directed by Misato Takada at Liden Films (Goblin Slayer Season 1 was developed at White Fox instead) while previous director from the first season, Takaharu Ozaki, will be serving as chief director. Biggest Manga That Don't Have an Anime https://comicbook.com/anime/news/biggest-manga-series-no-anime/ Sat, 05 Aug 2023 22:42:00 +0000 Evan Valentine e459acc8-3564-4591-a3f0-c8e1758f54e3

A very large percentage of anime adaptations will pull their material from a manga series, though there are certainly examples of anime originals and anime based on light novels that populate the landscape. Series such as My Hero Academia, Demon Slayer, Jujutsu Kaisen, and more have given some serious sales boosts as a result of being brought to the small screen. While there are countless examples of new anime series confirmed for this year, there are many manga that are worth checking out despite the fact that they have yet to receive anime adaptations.

Anime and manga have had an amazing track record in Japan over the years, but they have seen a surge all over the world as technology is able to connect more readers and viewers with content. North America specifically saw a major spike in manga sales as a result of the coronavirus pandemic, with many readers looking to pass the time during various quarantines. Surprisingly, sales have lessened little in the face of pandemic restrictions easing and the West continues to be prime consumers for all things anime and manga. Should some of these mentioned manga series receive television series, we would imagine sales will see a serious uptick.

With this being said, let's start listing off the biggest and best manga around that have yet to receive an anime series.

Sakamoto Days

sakamoto-days-yuto-suzuki-manga-anime.jpg
(Photo: Shueisha)

Sakamoto Days features a protagonist who doesn't quite look like your standard shonen hero like Luffy, Goku, Naruto, or Deku. Rather, it focuses on an older convenience store owner who harbors a dark secret, he was once one of the world's greatest assassins. Ironically enough, the series also has a character with telepathy much like Spy x Family, adding some extra spice into the equation. First premiering in 2020, there have been rumors than an anime adaptation is on the way, but nothing has been confirmed and this makes for a manga well worthy checking out in the mean time.

DanDaDan

dandadan-anime.png
(Photo: Shueisha)

What happens when a ghost hunter and an alien enthusiast learn that both not only exist, but have given them strange new abilities? You get DandaDan. It's almost criminal that this hasn't received an anime adaptation as of yet considering the high octane, supernatural action held within its page. Created by Yukinobu Tatsu in 2021, the manga series focuses on Momo and Ken, with the former loving ghosts and the latter loving aliens but receiving the opposite powers of what they were expecting. Jam-packed with humor and action, DandaDan is dying for an anime series.

Vagabond

vagabond.jpg
(Photo: Kodansha)

Vagabond is one of those legendary series that has yet to receive any sort of anime adaptation, probably because it seems impossible to adapt the work of Takehiko Inoue. First debuting in 1998, the series has been on hiatus for quite some time but an ending was created by the mangaka responsible for the series in case the manga doesn't come to its grand finale. Following the story of Musashi Miyamoto, a samurai looking to become the strongest in the world, the series' story and stunning artwork have made it a fan favorite.

20th Century Boys

20th-century-boys-1245727.jpg

Naoki Urasawa has made a name for himself as a manga creator with the likes of Monster and Pluto, with the former already receiving an anime adaptation and the latter aiming to get its own later this year. One of his biggest has yet to hit the scene in 20th Century Boys, a series the focuses on a group of childhood friends who are coming to grips with the idea that one of their friends might just bring about the end of the world. First debuting in 1999, the manga came to an end in 2006 and is primed to hit the anime world.

Fire Punch

fire-punch.jpg
(Photo: Shueisha)

Before there was Chainsaw Man, there was Fire Punch. Created by the author responsible for birthing Denji and his world of devils into the world, Tatsuki Fujimoto weaved this tale back in 2016 that followed a protagonist who had wild regenerative powers, which came with a heavy cost. With his village destroyed, the protagonist named Agni soon learns that his healing factor saves him from the fires that killed his home, but keeps him in a state of perpetual flame as a result.

One Piece Counts Down to Gear 5 Debut With Special Luffy Promo https://comicbook.com/anime/news/one-piece-1071-gear-5-luffy-anime-promo/ Sat, 05 Aug 2023 22:28:00 +0000 Nick Valdez b2e8b362-d88c-4b78-9bfa-556285664032

One Piece is getting ready for the anime debut of Luffy's next big form, and the One Piece anime is counting down to Gear 5 Luffy's introduction with a special promo showing off how far Monkey D. Luffy has come through the episodes so far! Luffy took a third and seemingly final loss to Kaido on the roof of Onigashima's Skull Dome with the previous episodes of the anime, and was even declared dead due to his heart stopping. But it was far from the end as this only kicked off Luffy's transformation into something much stronger.

It was announced during One Piece Day 2023 earlier this Summer that Gear 5 Luffy would be coming to the One Piece anime with Episode 1071, and now that this new episode is finally here, One Piece is hyping up Luffy going to his next gear with a promo showing off each of Luffy's Gear forms seen in the anime so far. Gear 5 Luffy will be a much different transformation than all of these others, so it's the perfect way to see much Luffy has changed over the years. Check it out below:

How to Watch One Piece Episode 1071

One Piece Episode 1071 is titled "Luffy's Peak - Attained! Gear Five" and will officially be streaming with Crunchyroll on Saturday, August 5 at 9PM (as long as schedule permits). Toei Animation's previous promo for One Piece Episode 1071 teases the episode as such, "An amusing heartbeat unleashed! Both his allies and enemies got involved and are astounded. Is that free and flexible power a ridiculous thing or a token of freedom?! Fortune comes in by a merry gate...of Nika. Here comes the Warrior of Liberation who transcends all imagination!"

"I thought it would be difficult to do the laughing parts, so I tried to cut down on the laughter a little," One Piece director Tatsuya Nagamine admitted when getting Luffy's voice actor ready for Gear 5 in the anime. Thankfully, Mayumi Tanaka knocked it out of the park," But Ms. Mayumi Tanaka went above and beyond and gave us an amazing Gear 5 laugh. And the final result exceeded out expectations."

Black Clover Brings Anti-Magic Noelle to Life in New Art https://comicbook.com/anime/news/black-clover-anti-magic-noelle-anime-manga-art/ Sat, 05 Aug 2023 21:59:00 +0000 Nick Valdez 909bb3d1-0b48-42b7-b654-c11091b0d288

Black Clover's manga is now in the midst of its final arc as fans hold out hope for the TV anime's proper comeback, and one awesome fan has used the time to imagine a cool what-if with an anti-magic powered Noelle Silva! Yuki Tabata's Black Clover manga has been making its way through the intense slate of final fights for the fate of the Clover Kingdom, and there are all sorts of new forms and powers already being demonstrated so far. It might be a while for these fights to get an anime adaptation someday, but fans are taking things into their own hands.

Noelle has gotten stronger since the last time we had seen her in action as well as she has unleashed a powerful new form for the final arc of the series. Black Clover's chapters have yet to show much of this new form in action just yet, but artist @Nevi_HC on Twitter gave this form a cool demonic twist by imagining what Noelle's Leviathan boosted Dragon Form would look like if it were powered by anti-magic like Asta's instead. Check out the cool Black Clover art below:

Black Clover: What's Next for Noelle?

Black Clover's final arc has set Noelle up with her toughest fight yet in a distressing reunion with her mother, Acier, who has been brainwashed and revived with Lucius Zogratis' Paladin powers. It's likely that her new water magic powers will make her a match for her toughest opponent yet, but it would be cool if she somehow was able to use anti-magic as well. It's something that would further tie her to Asta, and help the two develop more of that potential relationship that fans have been wanting to see form since the beginning of the series.

It has yet to be revealed as to whether or not the Black Clover TV anime will return someday, but you can currently check out the current run of episodes now streaming on Crunchyroll. You can also find its debut feature film, Black Clover: Sword of the Wizard King, now streaming on Netflix as it shows off a lot of cool stuff from Noelle, Asta, and many other characters during its run time.

Would you want to see Noelle wielding anti-magic too? Let us know all of your thoughts about it and everything Black Clover in the comments!

Kaiju No. 8 will be making its anime adaptation debut next year, and Kaiju No. 8 has revealed its scheduled release window along with the first main additions to the anime's voice cast! Naoya Matsumoto's Kaiju No. 8 manga has been one of the bigger hits coming out of Shueisha's Jump+ app in the last few years, so it's no surprise to find out that a new anime project is now in the works. With the newest update for the Kaiju No. 8 anime, there has finally been the first concrete reveal about when we can expect to see the series in motion.

After teasing fans earlier in the week about a new update coming our way, Kaiju No. 8 has dropped a massive new look at the new anime with a trailer that confirms that Kaiju No. 8 will be premiering in April 2024. It was here the first three members of the voice cast were confirmed as well with Masaya Fukunishi as Kafka Hibino (and the titular Kaiju No. 8), Wataru Katoh as Reno Ichikawa, and Asami Seto as Mina Ashiro. You can check out the newest look at the Kaiju No. 8 anime below:

What to Know for the Kaiju No. 8 Anime

With Production I.G. producing the animation and Studio Khara providing Kaiju designs, Kaiju No. 8 is currently scheduled for a release next April as part of the Spring 2024 anime schedule. As for what to expect from the new Kaiju No. 8 anime, TOHO Animation begins to tease the series as such, "In a world plagued by threatening creatures known as Kaiju, Kafka Hibino aspired to enlist in the Japan Defense Force to defeat them. 'Let's wipe out the Kaiju together.' Kafka pledged to his childhood friend, Mina Ashiro. Over time, life circumstances forced them to go their separate ways and caused him to abandon his lifelong ambition. He found himself employed by Monster Sweeper, Inc., a professional cleaning company that specializes in cleaning up the aftermath of Kaiju battles."

Kaiju No.8's synopsis continues with, "Meanwhile, Mina Ashiro is now the Captain of the Defense Force's 3rd Division. As it stands, he is currently unworthy of fighting Kaiju alongside her. At work, Kafka crosses paths with the highly motivated Reno Ichikawa. Reno's undying determination to join the Defense Force leaves no room for failure. His perseverance reawakens Kafka's ambition of standing next to Mina as they protect humanity from Kaiju together. A dream frozen by time, thawed by a burning promise. But Kafka doesn't know that an imminent Kaiju threat is unexpectedly approaching him."

Jujutsu Kaisen Season 2 Ends Gojo Flashback Arc https://comicbook.com/anime/news/jujutsu-kaisen-season-2-gojo-past-arc-flashback-ends/ Sat, 05 Aug 2023 21:00:00 +0000 Nick Valdez a527bce5-6671-466f-a972-740bc7cd77ff

Jujutsu Kaisen Season 2 has officially wrapped the first major arc of the anime's newest run of episodes this Summer, and with the newest episode Jujutsu Kaisen Season 2 has ended the Gojo's Past saga! The Gojo's Past saga is the Hidden Inventory and Premature Death arcs from Gege Akutami's original Jujutsu Kaisen manga, and fans have seen a very important mission for Satoru Gojo and Suguru Geto play out over the course of the first few episodes of the season as a result of the flashback's adaptation. This was all necessary work to get to some of the big moments to come.

Jujutsu Kaisen Season 2 previously announced that the Hidden Inventory and Premature Death arcs would wrap with Episode 5 of the new season airing on August 3rd, and this came to pass with the release of the episode ending the flashback officially and bringing things back into the "present day" timeline of the series as Yuji Itadori, Megumi Fushiguro, and Nobara Kugisaki prepare to take the reigns of the anime moving forward for the final massive arc of Jujutsu Kaisen Season 2.

What's Next for Jujutsu Kaisen Season 2

As previously announced, Jujutsu Kaisen Season 2 is gearing up to start the Shibuya Incident arc in full at the end of August after a brief break period with a few recaps for everything that's happened so far:

  • July 6 to August 3: Hidden Inventory and Premature Death Arcs (the Gojo's Past saga)
  • August 10: Gojo's Past Arc and Jujutsu Kaisen 0 Movie Recap
  • August 17: Jujutsu Kaisen Season 1 Recap
  • August 24: Break
  • August 31: Shibuya Incident Arc

Jujutsu Kaisen Season 2 will be kicking off the Shibuya Incident Arc with Episode 6 of the anime coming on August 31st, and that means that fans will then get to see the hugest arc of the original manga run to date. Tons of massive fights, big reveals, and some major character deaths are coming our way before Jujutsu Kaisen Season 2 ends its run after two consecutive cours of episodes.

What did you like about Jujutsu Kaisen's Gojo flashback arc? Are you excited to head back into the present for the rest of Jujutsu Kaisen Season 2? Teenage Mutant Ninja Turtles: Mutant Mayhem Reveals One Turtle is a Massive Otaku https://comicbook.com/anime/news/teenage-mutant-ninja-turtles-mutant-mayhem-donatello-anime-fan/ Sat, 05 Aug 2023 20:54:00 +0000 Evan Valentine f416733a-9346-4ba3-b034-267746f7604c

Teenage Mutant Ninja Turtles: Mutant Mayhem has offered Turtles' fans with a radical new take on the Heroes in a Half Shell. Portraying the legendary mutant heroes as much younger than many of their other interpretations, the movie was greenlit by Paramount for both a sequel film and a television series that will bridge the gap between the first film and the second. Peppering the movie with a number of anime references in its runtime, one Turtle is directly responsible for many of the nods to the medium.

Over the many iterations of the Turtle siblings, each brother has normally fallen into a stereotypical function as a part of the quartet. Raphael is a bruiser who is usually dealing with some serious anger issues. Leonardo usually takes on the role of leader while attempting to set an example for his brothers. Michaelangelo is a "party dude" who will usually hop aboard a skateboard during some of their biggest fights. Donatello has been a brainy powerhouse when it comes to creating weaponry and machinery to benefit himself and his family. In Mutant Mayhem, Donatello is shown to be an anime fan, with a number of popular series being directly referenced as a result.

Donatello: An Anime-Loving Turtle

Donny wishes to attend high school in the new Teenage Mutant Ninja Turtles like his brothers, and is shown in the film to want to join a school's "Anime Club." With the club being promoted with the help of art of My Hero Academia's Deku, this is far from the only anime reference in the movie. Donatello at one point in the film even expresses his love for Attack on Titan, the bleak anime franchise that is bringing its television series to an end this fall.

Without diving too deeply into spoiler territory, Attack on Titan specifically plays a far bigger role in the film than many might have expected. It's a testament to how big the anime medium has become in North America that Mutant Mayhem has so many anime references in its runtime. When these Heroes In A Half-Shell do make a comeback in the new tv series and sequel, we're sure to see more of Donatello's love of all things anime.

What did you think of Donatello's love of anime in the latest Paramount movie? Feel free to let us know in the comments or hit me up directly @EVComedy to talk all things comics, anime, and the world of the Teenage Mutant Ninja Turtles.
